Film has always been a passion of mine, but it hasn’t always been my main career goal. Growing up, one of my favorite things to do was to make movies with my siblings, but as I grew up and went off to college, I didn’t initially see “movie making” as a viable career option. After a few years as an IT major, I took an editing class to fill a credit. This seemingly small addition to my school schedule changed the entire trajectory of my life. I loved editing! I quickly found a job working as a video editor and after a few years I worked my way up to a Post-Production Manager at a video production company. While there, I was looking for ways to expand and grow my filmmaking career and decided the best option was to finish my degree in film at UVU.

While I have had a lot of opportunities to try new things such as script writing, sound mixing, and other roles in the production process, post-production has remained my favorite. I’m always drawn to editing and have also loved learning new skills like After Effects, 3D modeling, and even some VFX. I think my love for technology has helped me enjoy learning these things. While I watch movies, I am always wondering how they did certain effects, and will spend hours after researching it. A majority of my career has been spent on commercial videos, but I have enjoyed the transition into narrative as I have been able to edit multiple student films. With a drive to learn and passion for the process, I really hope to continue developing my skills in the post-production track.

As I’ve grown as a filmmaker, so have my aspirations. Commercial video editing will likely continue to be a part of my journey, but I plan to do more narrative filmmaking. I’d love to work my way into editing big time movies in LA, but I am also open to staying in Utah to work on films. Studying at UVU has helped my dreams feel more attainable. I have already had so many opportunities to begin editing narrative films, and I hope to continue learning and growing as a filmmaker at UVU.
